A couple of years ago, I got my first DSLR camera. Compared to our previous dinky little camera, my pictures were suddenly infinitely better. But I kept it on Auto mode all the time, cause all that stuff about aperture, shutterspeed and ISO scared the heck out of me. Plus, I didn’t feel like I had the time to adjust all the settings every time I wanted to snap a quick photo.

Now, three years later, I’m finally shooting in manual mode all the time, but I’m kicking myself for waiting that long to sit down and figure it all out (which was super complicated and frustrating in and of itself). Because now that I know how to use my camera, my photos are SO much better than when I shot in Auto mode.

If you’re struggling with the same issues I was when I first got my big, fancy camera, you should check out Marie from Bloom and Grow Photography‘s Camera Breakout Session (if you live in Utah).

Her class will not only teach you how to use your camera and make those camera settings second nature, but how to take absolutely stunning photos. I mean, just look at her blog and check out her amazing work. She seriously knows her stuff.

Just a few years ago, she was taking ordinary pictures like the rest of us, and now she’s taking photos like these, so if anyone knows how to teach you some photography skills, it’s her. So go sign up right now!

Happy Friday!

  1. A good camera makes such a big difference! I don't have a DSLR, but it's a step down where we can still use manual settings. So much fun! xoxo A-

I so agree! I've been looking for camera "classes" in my area for a while because whenever I try to change the aperture or ISO or whatever, the pics come out like crap haha. I'm trying, but husband teaching me is like the blind leading the blind 😉

  3. i always photograph manually, but sometimes i still feel like i have no idea how to use my camera! i figure if i just practice enough i'll eventually figure it out… 🙂

Only a year after I got my Samsung TL225 (which I thought was pretty unique with the dual screen) I started learning more about these hardcore DSLR ones. I wish I had waited before I got it! Which is one you'd recommend now that is inexpensive (online maybe?)? Sorry, I just wanted your opinion. 🙂 Since I'm so interested my dad said I can take photography classes from high school in the summer and then he can by a DSLR as a family camera if its around $500 or so. :3 (Obviously I'd hog it though… we don't have to tell him that. :p)
