On Valentine’s Day, my sister in law and her family were in town. So instead of leaving all our babies at home for a date night, we threw a little pink and red party that night (complete with floral crowns and pasta with pink sauce) and then got a babysitter the following night. Since it wasn’t the actual holiday when we went out, I decided to forgo a festive outfit and go for this simple and modern black and white look. And what better accessory to basic black and white than a bright neon bag?
I picked up this bag a few weeks ago, thinking it might be fun to use occasionally, but I’m shocked at how often I find myself wanting to wear it. The size is completely impractical with two kids so it’s more of a date night bag, but if I didn’t have to bring my entire house with me wherever I went, I would wear this bag every day.
Neon can be a little tricky to style sometimes, so try these 3 easy tips for wearing neon in your every day outfits:
- Stick to Small Accessories. If you’re worried about looking like a highlighter when wearing neon, try incorporating it in small doses — a necklace or bracelet, a small bag, shoes, or a belt. These will make a statement without overtaking your look.
- Wear It With Neutrals. Try pairing it with black and white (like this look), chambray, basic stripes, or a solid neutral-colored outfit. Obviously the neon item will draw attention, so don’t compete with it by wearing other bright colors or busy patterns.
- Add a Lip Color. Complete your neon-accessorized outfit with a brighter lip. It will keep the outfit cohesive and visually interesting so the focus is not just on the neon item.
