As you guys know, when I sew my own clothing, I always create my own patterns based off of my store bought clothing. I adjust and alter and redesign to make them completely my own, but I never use store bought patterns.
But every once in a blue moon I’ll make an exception, and this time I did for the amazing Megan Nielsen, who is a fantastic women’s apparel pattern maker. I’ve seen her patterns around the web for years and years, and always admired her modern designs and beginner-friendly patterns.
She asked me to try out one of her patterns, and I have to admit that I almost had to re-learn how to cut out a real pattern, because I haven’t done it in years! It was legitimately giving me anxiety dealing with all that tissue paper. But I made it through cutting out the pattern without having to breathe into a paper bag and from there it was so easy. I made the Brumby pattern, version 2 (although I made it knee length rather than midi), and I love how it turned out. The pieces all fit perfectly, the instructions were clear, and it came together really quickly.
I get comments and emails all the time asking where to find pattern pieces for my sewing tutorials, which I don’t actually provide. But I don’t blame people for asking because it’s hard to find great pattern makers out there with modern designs and easy to use instructions. So I’m thrilled to have finally tried out one of Megan Nielsen’s patterns and be able to say they are just as awesome as I’ve always thought they were.
PLUS! She just released a new free app that gives you access to the material lists, step by step instructions, cut layouts, etc, so you can do everything (except print and cut the pattern pieces) right from your phone. So smart and so convenient.
Check out some of her new sewing patterns right here, here, and here!
This is awesome! I really love that skirt and will definitely be checking out her patterns!

Thank you for the link! I’m terrible at sewing, and I have a hard time finding places to learn how to do certain techniques. Her tutorials are great, I can’t wait to try them out!
